Who We Are

In December 1990, heeding a divine call, Pastor Beard relocated from Shreveport, LA to Nashville, TN. Soon after, he founded a home-based Bible study group with several colleagues from Saturn. With the inviting scent of Cajun dishes as a backdrop, the group rapidly grew, drawing individuals eager for a more intimate scripture experience. Recognizing the need for more space, Pastor Beard collaborated with a local church. This partnership led to the founding of The Living Word Community Church in November 1994, under Bishop Ralph Houston's guidance, starting with three dedicated members.

As the congregation's spiritual dedication deepened, the church experienced a dramatic surge in membership. This spiritual awakening prompted transitions from a quaint local church to a high school, and ultimately, to a vast 10,000-square-foot sanctuary. Within these walls, the church thrived in worship, community outreach, family and youth ministries, watching its intimate gathering of 80 faithful grow into a lively congregation of 600 in just four years. Capitalizing on this growth, the church advanced to the expansive location at 409 Franklin Road in Brentwood, TN. This contemporary center, equipped with 47 classrooms, advanced technology, and a gym repurposed to assist the homeless on Monday nights, became a spiritual home for nearly 1,400 devoted members, highlighting the intrinsic connection between spiritual dedication and the growth of the church.

Identifying a pressing need in Antioch, Tennessee, particularly among the underserved and rising immigrant communities, the church leadership opted for another move. By 2013, they had first made their way to 5380 Hickory Hollow Parkway and finally to their enduring home at 2304 Hobson Pike, Antioch, TN 37013. Here, they persist in their dedicated mission of fostering faith, nurturing community, and offering service that meet the needs of families.

“This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.” 2 Corinthians 9:12
